Mike Cramp Reflects on a Fantastic Week!

Firstly, thank you to everyone that came along to support us last week at Crowborough and at Sunday’s FA Cup clash at The Culverden, your support does not go unnoticed.

It’s been a fantastic week for the club. With a local derby win against Crowborough, our first league win of the season and making history for the club with the first ever FA Cup win we have plenty to reflect on.

It’s not only winning the games that’s pleasing it is the manor in the way we have gone about our performances. We didn’t play our normal footballing game at Crowborough but you have to assess the game as it goes and we done that very well with a performance that deserved the three points.

Sunday’s FA Cup performance was great for the Club. We had great support and we hope the performance will encourage as many as possible to come and watch the entertaining football we play week in week out.
To get the clubs first ever FA Cup win myself, Ketters, Alan Murray and Alan Rogers couldn’t be prouder of the team. We performed really well and created many chances that we didn’t take, but the three goals we scored were really positive football and they reflect the hard work that we put in on the training ground. I felt that we controlled the game from the off, using the ball well but at times not moving it fast enough and lacking a bit of quality in the final third. This however was made clear at half time and the second half performance showed that we have a squad of players that listen to the instructions that they are given.
We have put a squad together that is starting to gel together, the atmosphere around the dressing room is really good and you can start to see that in the performances.

When we started the season we made it clear to the players that we want to build a squad that want to play football in the right way, do things as professionally as possible and most of all enjoy it and I think it’s clear to see that this is the case. We have a great mix of players, with some experience in the squad and some real young  talent and the mix of the two is working really well.
More positives to take from Sundays win was we had 5 reserve team players on the bench with two making an appearance, this goes to show that the reserve team managers, Lee and Nick, are also putting a squad together with quality players and it was something we always said we are keen to do and that’s look at the talented players we have within the club. The strength in depth that we have is something that will only prove as a positive as the season goes on, we had 7 players unavailable due to holidays, suspensions and injuries, once all the players are back its going to be a real headache for us as each player has the quality to be starting, however it’s a headache we will be relishing and a strong position to be in. The players all know competition for places is a healthy thing and it’s up to them to perform to the standards they can week in week out and keep the shirt.

The progression that we have made since we put the squad together has been fantastic. However, this is only the start. We have a long way to go and we can improve on many aspects, with the commitment that we’re getting from the players and the management team we will see this throughout the season.
We look forward to another good week on the training ground, working on the things that we need to improve on so come Saturday we are ready to go.

Thanks again to everyone for the support on Sunday and we hope that it will get you all back through the gates to watch us again soon.

Crampy & Ketters.
