SCEFL Challenge Cup Final Preview
Rusthall vs Bearsted | Good Friday | 1:00 PM KO | Flamingo Park
Good Friday sets the stage for a compelling SCEFL Challenge Cup Final as Rusthall take on Bearsted at Flamingo Park, home of Cray Wanderers. With both sides showcasing resilience and attacking quality throughout their cup runs, this year’s final promises to be an entertaining and closely fought contest.
Road to the Final
Rusthall’s journey has been nothing short of dramatic, defined by the lad's ability to respond under pressure. Our campaign began with a thrilling 4-3 victory away at SC Thamesmead, setting the tone for what would become a pattern of spirited comebacks. A dominant 6-0 win at home to Chessington & Hook followed, before another rollercoaster tie saw us edge past local rivals Tunbridge Wells 4-3 in what was a thriller!. In the semi-final, Rusthall once again had to dig deep, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win away at Larkfield & New Hythe. Remarkably, we have come from behind in three of our four matches en route to the final, underlining the boy's determination and character.
Bearsted’s path has been equally impressive, combining grit with attacking flair. They opened with a strong performance to help them to a 3-2 win at Whitstable before edging past Hollands & Blair after a tense 1-1 draw, eventually prevailing 4-3 on penalties. A narrow 3-2 victory over Hythe followed, setting up a dramatic semi-final clash away at AFC Greenwich Borough. In one of the standout moments of their cup run, Bearsted fought back from 3-1 down to win 4-3, with Jake Embery sealing a memorable comeback and booking their place in the final.
Key Players
Rusthall will look to Louie Clarke, who has been in outstanding form throughout the competition. Clarke has scored in every round, netting five goals on the way to the final and proving to be a consistent attacking threat when it matters most.
For Bearsted, Richard Jimoh stands out as their leading cup goalscorer. His contributions have been vital in key moments, and he will undoubtedly be a player Rusthall must keep a close eye on.
The Final Showdown
With both sides demonstrating a knack for comebacks and high-scoring encounters, this final has all the ingredients for a classic. Rusthall’s resilience will be tested against a Bearsted side that has shown it can turn games on their head, even in the most difficult circumstances.
Flamingo Park provides the perfect backdrop for what promises to be a fitting finale to the SCEFL Challenge Cup. Kick-off is at 1:00 PM, and if both teams’ journeys are anything to go by, supporters can expect drama, goals, and a memorable Good Friday clash.
