D-Squad over the Moon in the Cup! Dean Jacquin Reports...

Today the Development squad progressed to the next round of the Fisher Shield. A competition we came runners up in last season.
Todays opponents were Five Oak Green from the league below. It was a pretty even contest for the opening fifteen minutes and FOG were looking a lively threat going forward. Chances were being created at both ends. From one of these we took the lead. Elliot Moon had a shot parried by the keeper and Jay Donaghue was on hand to tap home. 1-0 up and Rusthall then started to create chance after chance. These were all wasted however. FOG were then given a somewhat dubious penalty. Reiss Hazell managed to make a good save though to keep it 1-0. This was vital as a goal for them could have changed the game. It was imperative we got the next goal and preferably before half time, and in Elliot we had just the man for the job. As in previous weeks he scored with a firm shot into the far corner. 2-0 half time.
The second half started fairly evenly and FOG were still in the game. Elliot once again calmed any nerves that was being felt with another strong finish. Jay then cheekily lobbed the goalie to make it 4-0. Elliot then got his hat trick and completed a good day for him with a fourth from the penalty spot. In between our 4th and 5th goal FOG scored a breakaway goal.
Final score 6-1.
So a good day at the office, with an improved team performance. Next week we travel to face Boro Lane, another cup game.

Well done lads.
