D-Squad Delight in Cup!

This was our first foray in a cup competition this season. Today was the Sevenoaks Junior Cup. We were pitted against St Lawrence reserves who ply their trade two divisions below ourselves. However having fluffed our lines last season, when in the same situation, it was important to go into the game with the correct attitude.
We had a decent squad to select from and decided to try a new formation. The game got under way with us playing up the slope. We asserted a fair amount of control in the opening 20 minutes and were rewarded when a decent delivery from Jeff Harrison was guided into his own net by their defender. The game then turned scrappy for about 15 minutes before we again started taking control. Just before half time the returning Jay Donoghue put us 2-0 up after some good work from Dan Rosier out wide, Jay neatly finished over the keeper.
Half time chat was positive and we hoped to push on down the slope.
Home grown talent in Jacob Gibson was introduced at half time and it was not long before he put his mark on the game. He latched onto a through ball and although under pressure from a defender fired home smartly. Alun Evans then made it four from close range, and the scoring was completed by Elliot Moon who is on a good scoring run at the moment.
With still 20 minutes to go, if there was a criticism it would be that we did not add to our tally. Numerous chances came and went.
But on the whole a good performance and safe passage into the next round where we face AFC Orpington.

Well done Lads.
