The League Finale...

So here it is, the last league game of the season and also the last time we'll ever play "Holmesdale FC".

Next season Holmesdale will become Petts Wood & Holmesdale FC in an exciting new venture for the club. Everyone at Rusthall wishes them well for the future.

Our previous meeting this season was a comprehensive 4-0 victory at home back in September.

Last season's fixture at The RTL Group Stadium saw Rusthall win 4-1 with Yassin, Charlie x2 and Thompson netting for us. A certain Louie Clarke netted for Holmesdale last season, before he made his way back home to Jockey Farm to complete the season.

Rusthall will be encouraged by Holmesdale's defensive record this season, despite currently sitting in 13th in the league they hold joined 2nd worst place in goals conceded this season having shipped 83 goals.

Louie Clarke, the current SCEFL Golden Boot leader, will be eager to face his former side as he attempts to maintain his top scoring position. It promises to be an exciting battle!

The result of this match could be pivotal for our season ambitions. Our primary goal remains securing third place to guarantee home advantage in the first playoff game. While second place isn’t mathematically out of reach, it would require Fisher to suffer a significant loss at home to Tunbridge Wells and for us to make up a 15-goal goal difference — a tall order given the competition this league presents.

Currently, Punjab sits in 4th place, only behind us on goal difference, making the race for that crucial third spot a four-way contest. Punjab have only spent five game weeks inside the playoff positions this season, and their recent form — winning their last seven league games — has kept them firmly in the mix. In contrast, teams like Bearsted, Fisher, and Larkfield have spent many weeks in playoff positions, with Bearsted leading at 33 weeks, Fisher at 16, Larkfield at 27, and us at 24.

One thing’s for certain — Saturday will be a tense, exciting day, with plenty of nervous refreshing of the FWP app!

It’s been an exhilarating run-in, and we’re hopeful the Rustics will secure that third place come 5pm on Saturday.

Come down and support the lads! Jimmy and Lee have personally asked for loads of noise — let’s make it a day to remember!
