Jimmy made 5 changes from the side that drew 2-2 at home to Lewisham Borough at the weekend on a wet and windy night at K Sports Cobdown and came away with a well earned 2-1 victory thanks to 2 second half goals in 4, second-half, minutes from leading scorer Reuel Powell-Downey!
Greenways had taken the lead in the first half with a well struck free kick on 27 minutes from Lewis Wood. The weather conditions made it difficult on the 3G surface and the home side were good value for their 1-0 lead at the interval.
Rusthall gaffer Jimmy Anderson called for his players to be patient in the 2nd half and to test the keeper in the difficult conditions and the players certainly did that as they took the game to the home side and it was no surprise when Rusthall levelled on 57 minutes, a superb through ball from defender Ryan Styles set Powell-Downey free and the in form striker calmly rounded the keeper before slotting the ball home.
Just 4 minutes later Greenways were not able to prevent the Rustics taking the lead, an excellently delivered free kick from Tommy Lawrence on the left found Powell-Downey who headed home.
Rusthall were now dominating and had the chance to wrap the game up when Charlie Clover was bundled over in the box for a penalty but striker Luke Adams saw his spot kick expertly saved by his former team mate Josh Klemen in the Greenways goal.
Thanks to some superb defending the Rustics were able to comfortably see the game out and we now move on to Saturday when Meridian VP visit The Jockey Farm Stadium for another league game.
